Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere believes the Gunners finishing second in the Premier League could be the platform to push for the title in 2015/16. The England international says Arsenal’s 2015 form is proof they can challenge the best for the league crown, reports Sky
A recent 3-1 win against Hull City saw Arsenal enjoy their eight victory in their last nine Premier League games, and boosted their chances of a top-two finish. It would be their best position in the division for a decade, and would be a springboard to push for more the following campaign.
Manager Arsene Wenger has rued the slow start Arsenal had to the season, as he believes it’s the only reason they lost ground on eventual champions Chelsea. He’s not wrong either, given the Londoners dropped 13 points in their opening seven league games of the season, and Jack Wilshere is convinced Arsenal can finally challenge for the Premier League title if they get all the ingredients right from the start.
“(Finishing second) would set a marker for next season and would be a progression from last year. The last few seasons we’ve finished fourth, so to finish two places ahead of that would be a massive progression for us and hopefully will give us confidence going into next season,” he said.
They are ending the season strongly, but need to start the campaign as they have ended this one, which is something that hasn’t happened often in the past.
