Dutch forward Memphis Depay wants to become one of the world’s best during his time at Manchester United, when he officially makes the move this summer from Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven. He’s drawn comparisons to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, but admits he still has some way to go to be on his level, reports Sky
Manchester United paid over £25M to sign the coveted prolific goalscorer from PSV, with manager Louis van Gaal knowing him well from the time spent together in the Dutch national team. Depay revealed that his former country manager told him to stay in the Netherlands for another season to continue his development, and it result in the youngster winning the league and being top scorer.
Now he’s made the decision to move abroad to reach new heights in his career at the top level, and Depay wants to become the best. He’s seen how Cristiano Ronaldo progressed from his years at Old Trafford, and is hoping the same can happen to him too. While admitting he still has some way to go to be considered among the best players, Depay believes in his ability and hopes he can accomplish his dreams.
“I want to improve myself. I believe I can be a big player in the Premier League. It has been a big dream and one that came true. I am 21 and I have not reached the level of Cristiano Ronaldo. He is a big hero for me and one day I hope to reach that level. He scores so many goals and I want to fight to be one of the best players in the world,” he said.
