Henry full of praise for former teammate Lionel Messi following Champions League performance

Ex-Barcelona striker Thierry Henry lauded Lionel Messi’s performance in Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final clash against Bayern Munich, questioning what defence can keep the Argentine quiet when he’s on top form, reports Sky Sports.

Lionel Messi produced a masterclass performance for the Catalan giants against Bayern Munich at the Nou Camp, scoring two goals and setting up a third. His opening goal was fired in at the near past from the edge of the area, with Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer taken for surprise. His second was true brilliance, weaving past Jerome Boateng – which left the German centre-back on the deck – before chipping Neuer with his weaker foot.

He put Neymar through on goal to score a third, and after the game, pundits, supporters and teammates were full of praise for his antics. The long-serving Barcelona striker has been in sensational form this season, and his former teammate Thierry Henry believes nobody can stop him when he’s in the mood to shine.

The ex-Arsenal man believes Messi can pick and choose when to win games, such was the ease he scored two vital goals in the Champions League. Henry said: “Lionel Messi just happened. That’s just what happened tonight. Leo Messi decided to win the game. I don’t care who you are, what type of defender you are, what are you going to do? There’s nothing you can do, you just hope that Neuer can save you again. Just look at the ball go into the net and watch him celebrate.”
