Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has admitted that his side must show their recent consistent form in the entirety of next season if they are to have a chance of claiming the Premier League title, reports the Daily
The North London club have lost just once since New Year’s Day and are on a run of nine wins in 10 Premier League games, while they have reached the final of the FA Cup where they hope to regain their crown. Performance levels have been exceedingly high of late, with a fine display seeing them to a 3-1 victory at Hull City in their last outing.
The recent run has them on course to finish second in the Premier League and achieve their highest position for a decade, but a poor first half to the campaign has ensured that they were unable to seriously threaten Chelsea, who were crowned champions in the last round of fixtures.
And Mertesacker, who has scored once in 43 appearances in all competitions this season, believes that Arsenal do have a chance of succeeding next season if they can show consistency from beginning to end. He said: “Consistency. It’s all about that. In 2015 we haven’t lost a lot of games. Those winning runs create a lot of confidence, between the fans, between the team. That is really important to get that going for more than six months.”
