Southampton are confident of tying down talented right-back Nathaniel Clyne to an extended contract, amid rumours linking his short-term future away from St Mary’s, reports Sky
The England international has once again impressed this season, which has led to interest from a host of clubs in the Premier League. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly the three sides particularly keen in Clyne’s services, and the right-back did admit wanting to join a side in the Champions League in the future to harbour his European ambitions.
While many assumed this would naturally see Clyne leaving the club in the summer, Southampton are still confident they can convince him to commit his future for a few more years to help Ronald Koeman’s to a high finish next season. They surprised many with their fast start to the campaign, and could still finish in a Europa League place, so there’s a lot to play for with the Saints.
Southampton endured a mass exodus last summer, and they are desperate to avoid a repeat this time round. Clyne is one player they are very keen to keep, and are said to be confident they can do so.
