Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne says he’s happy at St Mary’s and waiting on a deal

Despite rumours suggesting Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne would be one of the first players out of the club in the summer, with both Manchester United and Chelsea showing an interest, the England international has said he’s happy at the South Coast, and is hoping of signing a new deal, reports Sky Sports.

Clyne has been outstanding for Southampton since signing from Crystal Palace, and is now regarded as one of the Premier League’s best fullbacks. The England defender is enjoying the best period of his career, and his form certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed with the elite clubs in the division.

Manchester United and Chelsea are two sides who have been linked with Nathaniel Clyne all season, and two clubs who would be in need of a right-back for the near future. Southampton were bracing themselves for his exit, as he has only one years remaining on his deal, and didn’t look to be signing a new deal, but Clyne has revealed the opposite to be true.

The 24-year-old has said he’s happy at Southampton, and is waiting on his agent to negotiate him a new deal. He said: “I am enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it is an up-and-coming club. I am happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at Southampton as well. My agent is negotiating, so I will just leave it with my agent and I am just going to concentrate on playing my football.”
