West Ham unlikely to make Song loan deal permanent

West Ham United are set to decide against making a bid to sign on-loan defensive midfielder Alexandre Song on a permanent basis this summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Cameroon international moved to Upton Park from Barcelona on a season-long deal towards the end of the summer transfer window and made an immediate impression to help the club ride high in the Premier League, with a possible top-six finish looking well within reach during the festive period.

But his form has dropped since the turn of the year, as has the whole team’s. A series of inconsistent performances have cast doubts into the minds of some key figures at the Hammers over whether to bring the former Arsenal star back for next season. He is also a reported transfer target for Inter.

Song may not be the only midfielder set to depart the Londoners at the end of the season, with captain Kevin Nolan likely to be allowed to leave. The 32-year-old has made relatively little impact this term and is viewed by the club as someone who no longer matches the profile of player they are looking for.
