Zabaleta expecting changes at Man City

Manchester City right-back Pablo Zabaleta believes there will be changes at the club during the summer after their failure to win a trophy this season, Sky Sports has reported.

The Premier League crown they regained last season has been lost to Chelsea as City have fallen away into a battle with in-form Arsenal to finish as runners-up, while they exited both domestic cups at the fourth round and were comfortably beaten by Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League.

These disappointments have resulted in questions regarding the future of manager Manuel Pellegrini, while it is thought that some of the playing staff will be moved on at the end of the season.

And Zabaleta – who has been at Man City for almost seven years – is expecting the club to make significant investment in order to regain their place at the top and return to challenging for major honours.

“This is a Manchester City side that want to win trophies, every season,” said the Argentine. “The expectations and ambitions are really big and that’s why now we are a little disappointed about the season because we are out of the cups and Chelsea have won the title with four or five games to go.

“I always expect change. Big clubs are very ambitious and want to sign big players. City are one of those clubs that wants to win trophies next season and that is why you can expect some change.”

Zabaleta is likely to be involved as City look for their fourth straight win when they take on relegation haunted Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.
