Berahino urged to commit future to West Brom

West Bromwich Albion Head Coach Tony Pulis has urged top scorer Saido Berahino to commit his future to the club by signing a new and improved contract, the Birmingham Mail has reported.

There is widespread interest in the 21-year-old, who has had a fine season for the Baggies, scoring an impressive 20 Premier League goals including two in Monday’s memorable 3-0 success over champions Chelsea. Europa League hopefuls Liverpool and Tottenham are among the sides especially keen, with bids expected to come in for Berahino when the transfer window opens.

Berahino has suggested at times this season that he may look to leave the Hawthorns in the summer in favour of a move to a club in the Premier League’s top six, but Pulis has often insisted that it would take a substantial amount of money to force the West Midlands side into a sale. As a result, Berahino’s attitude has been called into question on a number of occasions this season.

And Pulis insists that staying at West Brom for at least another year would be beneficial to Berahino’s career. He said: “Saido knows where this club stands. If a top-four club comes in and makes a massive offer and it’s good for the club and good for the player then we will sit down and talk.

”We don’t want him to go and he knows that. We’re very keen that he stays and I think, having spoken to the kid, that he needs to be here to have at least another year when he is playing week in, week out.”
