Everton vs Tottenham – Premier League preview and team news

Both Everton and Tottenham have fallen some way short short of their target of finishing in the top four this season, but will be keen to conclude with a win as they meet on Sunday.

Indeed, the Toffees come into this still fighting for a place in the top half, such has been their indifference. A talented squad has found the demands of the Europa League tough to cope with, but they are at least ending the season positively, with six wins in their last outings.

The most recent of those came at West Ham United, where Romelu Lukaku made it 20 in all competitions this season with a last-gasp winner. The striker has had his critics, but will be integral to their attempts next term to restore their place in the top seven.

There have been a number of positives for Mauricio Pochettino to look back on as his first year as Spurs boss comes to a close, but ultimately they have lacked the consistency needed to make a significant challenge for a place in the Champions League. But they can still finish fifth, which would represent progress.

The influence of Harry Kane has waned slightly of late, although this game may spell the end at Tottenham for fellow striker Roberto Soldado. As for the outcome of the game, it could be decided in the wide areas, with Belgian duo Kevin Mirallas and Nacer Chadli battling for supremacy.

Sylvain Distin may recover from illness in time to play for Everton, but Aaron Lennon is ineligible to face his parent club.

Tottenham will be without the injured Kyle Walker and Ben Davies, with Michel Vorm doubtful and Emmanuel Adebayor away on compassionate leave.
