Leicester vs QPR – Premier League preview and team news

There will be a party atmosphere at the King Power Stadium on Sunday as Leicester City, safe from relegation, face a Queens Park Rangers side who are condemned to the Championship.

Very few people gave the Foxes any hope of beating the drop just a couple of months ago, but their superb run ensures that they look forward to more top-flight football next term. And here there is double reason to celebrate, with hardworking striker Jamie Vardy having earned an England call-up.

It was a strong defensive performance which produced the point they needed last time out at Sunderland, with Nigel Pearson’s decision to employ a back line of three experienced centre-backs vindicated. The influence of Esteban Cambiasso in midfield has also been invaluable.

QPR will be keen to take something here and avoid finishing bottom of the Premier League for the second time in three seasons, but despite their fate, their confidence in boss Chris Ramsey is such that they have given him the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

He will have plenty of work to do over the summer as several players look set to leave. Top scorer Charlie Austin has also been given an England call-up, and with his efforts this season, this is almost certain to be his final game for the R’s, who impressively fought back to beat Newcastle United.

Leicester will be without injured duo David Nugent and Matt James, while Danny Simpson will not play due to an ongoing legal case.

Alex McCarthy will start in goal for QPR in the absence of Robert Green. Defender Steven Caulker also misses out.
