Atletico Madrid winger Arda Turan has apparently signed a pre-contract agreement with Premier League champions Chelsea, according to the Metro.
The Turkish international has made it clear to Atletico chief Diego Simeone that he wants to move on this summer, and took to Twitter earlier in the week to confirm that his agent is in talks with a number of European clubs ahead of the transfer window.
Manchester United were initially said to be in pole position to snap him up, but now reports in Spanish newspaper Marca are suggesting that he has penned a pre-contract deal with the Blues, and will head to Stamford Bridge at some point in the near future.
It is believed that it is the player’s desire to play for Jose Mourinho that has swung his decision, however, last week it was claimed that he wanted to leave Atleti having grown tired of running so much, so it’s hard to imagine how he thinks he would escape his defensive duties in London. Mourinho has been known to expect his forwards to frequently track back and help out their defensive colleagues.
Turan has a release clause of £29.1m in his contract, and it is thought that Chelsea could still lower that fee by using full-back Felipe Luis as a makeweight.
