Barcelona confirm Pedro signs contract extension: Gunners and Reds miss out on top target

Spanish champions Barcelona have put an end to the speculation surrounding Pedro’s future by confirming that he has extended his contract with the club by a further four years.

In an announcement on the club’s official website, Barca said that he has agreed to sign a new deal that will keep him at the Nou Camp until 2019 just as he was about the enter the final year of his current contract.

The statement also says that his buyout clause will remain at €150m.

The news will come as a blow to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, both of whom were interested in bringing him to the Premier League this summer.

Able to play as a forward or a winger, the 27-year-old has risen through the ranks of the club’s youth academy, and made his debut for the senior side in 2008.

He has since gone on to make 317 appearances for the club, scoring 98 goals to collect a stunning 18 trophies.
