Despite previous trends suggesting that Queens Park Ranger forward Charlie Austin was heading to Stamford Bridge, it now appears that it is another London club that is closing in on his signature.
The Daily Mirror report that a wave of bets on the 25-year-old joining West Ham has seen one bookmaker suspend betting on the possibility of the striker being at the Boleyn Ground next year.
The suggestion that Austin’s move to Slaven Bilic’s side now seems imminent comes just hours after the Metro reported that the odds had been slashed on the former Burnley man joining Chelsea with another bookmaker.
Whether a move now materialises remains to be seen, however the speculation highlights the desire to keep Austin in the Premier League next year. He enjoyed some wonderful form last season – bagging 18 goals in the top flight – and did not look out of place competing with some of the best defenders in the division.
And it’s safe to say that both interested clubs could do with him in their squads for different reasons. The Hammers had only one player reach double figures for goals last season, while Chelsea need to find a replacement for Didier Drogba.
