Chelsea are said to be the latest Premier League club to show an interest in signing QPR striker Charlie Austin this summer, according to ESPN.
Chelsea News and Goals
The England international enjoyed a brilliant debut season in the top flight, despite it ending in relegation, as he bagged himself 17 goals. However, it now appears as though he will be moving on in the next few weeks, with a number of Premier League sides keen to take him away from Loftus Road.
Newcastle have recently emerged as the favourites to snap him up, as they look to rebuild their squad under the guidance of new manager Steve McClaren.
But that deal is now thought to have stalled, and Jose Mourinho has since been allowed to join the race for his signature.
With Didier Drogba already gone, and Loic Remy set to follow suit, the Premier League champions are in need of some reinforcements up front. With just one recognised striker on board, the Blues will need to bring more new faces on board.
Chelsea are reported to be close to striking a loan deal for Radamel Falcao, but Austin enjoyed a much more productive campaign than his Colombian counterpart, and his wage packet would be far more affordable, too.
Austin has already made an impression against Jose Mourinho’s men, bagging a well taken goal against them when the two sides met last term.
