According to The Guardian, Arsene Wenger remains keen on bringing in Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, and is looking to pay £10m for the experienced stopper.

The 33-year-old has been in excellent form for the Blues this year, but has found his opportunities restricted due to the emergence of Thibaut Courtois. The Daily Express reported last month that the Czech international would be open to a move to the Emirates, meaning that Chelsea’s desire to keep him – or at least, deny him going to a Premier League rival – seems the only thing preventing a deal.

Cech would bring a reliability that seems to have been lacking from Arsenal’s goalkeepers in recent times. Both David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny have made mistakes this season, and could therefore find their position under threat.

Unlike their two current stoppers, it is difficult to have anything to critical to say about Francis Coquelin. The Frenchman has shone since he was brought into the first-team midway through the year, and has given his teammates the confidence to think that they can mount a serious title challenge next year.

Nevertheless, the 24-year-old may find his own place in trouble as The Guardian suggest that the Gunners hope to sign Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, as they look to add a resiliency that will lessen the defensive workload on the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The Guardian also speculate that the club may also be keen on adding another striker to their ranks, despite Olivier Giroud finishing an interrupted campaign with 14 goals in the top flight, and Theo Walcott bagging a hat-trick on the final day of the season.
