Chelsea striker Diego Costa is keen for a move back to Spain, after struggling to settle in London.
Chelsea Transfer News
According to The Sun, the 26-year-old would like to return to Atletico Madrid, as despite his happiness working under Jose Mourinho, he is finding it difficult to adjust to life in the capital.
The news is likely to come as a major shock to Blues fans, who have watched the Spanish international shine in his first season since his £32m move from Diego Simeone’s side.
Costa took little time to get used to the Premier League, bagging a goal 17 minutes into his debut. His first four games in top flight reaped seven goals, and would help him on his way to hitting the back of the net on 20 occasions as Chelsea clinched their fourth title since current owner Roman Abramovich came to the club.
The Sun suggest that Abramovich will not allow his star striker to leave however.
The club hierarchy’s decision not to even consider listening to an offer for Costa is highly understandable. As well as potentially losing his impact on the pitch, his departure would leave them in dire need of finding a replacement. With Didier Drogba also leaving the club (via the Daily Mail), Mourinho is left with only Loic Remy to call upon from the first-team.
The Frenchman however, has yet to prove himself, having been restricted to a handful of appearances. His return of seven goals is unlikely to convince his manager that he is able to lead the line on his own, with only a cluster of youngsters – including Patrick Bamford and Dominic Solanke – waiting in the wings.
