The 27-year-old is a popular figure at the Lisbon-based club, but is widely being tipped to move on in the upcoming transfer window.
And now quotes by the player’s agent, Jose Irribaren, seen to confirm that he will indeed be on his way to Old Trafford in the coming weeks.
“Everything is possible, there is a deal with Manchester United,” Irrabaren told Tuttomercatoweb.
“The will of the player is that everything goes well.
“We are waiting for a response from the vice President, which is why I cannot say much more.”
With the future of Angel di Maria still up in the air, his compatriot could turn out to be an ideal replacement as Louis van Gaal continues to search for more reinforcements.
It is thought that Benfica would likely want to bring in a replacement, considering he is so influential to the way they play and the recent success they have enjoyed.
But judging by Irribaren’s comments all parties are just waiting for the final go ahead from the Benfica board before the deal can be completed.
