The Brazilian veteran looked to be heading for the exit door as his contract expired at the end of the month, but the new deal will run for another two-years with the option of a third.
The decision to keep him on board at the club will see Alves enjoy his eighth season at the club next year, and having already picked up 19 pieces of silverware in that time, he will be looking to go for his 20th.
Having joined from fellow La Liga side Sevilla back in 2008, Alves has gone on to make 343 games for the club, more than any foreign player in the side’s history.
He had been linked with a summer switch to the Premier League, with both Liverpool and Manchester United keen, but they will now be forced to look elsewhere.
