Five best Arsenal signings under Arsene Wenger as Petr Cech completes Emirates switch

4. Robert Pires

Robert Pires moved to Highbury from Marseille for £6m in 2000 (via BBC Sport), and would continue to provide the flair and quality down the wing that Arsenal fans would have been worried they would have lost when Marc Overmars – who is himself unlucky not to make the list – departed for Barcelona. The Frenchman threatened to become one of the world’s best players during his time in north London, however his incredible form was halted when he sustained a cruciate ligament injury in 2002. The injury meant he missed the World Cup that summer, but he did manage to rediscover some of his best form upon his return. He would enjoy the same trophy haul at the club as Sol Campbell did, but would score the winning goal in the 2003 FA Cup final against Southampton.
