According to Goal, Krautzun revealed that Klopp once confided in him that once he had achieved all he could with Dortmund, Old Trafford would be his ideal destination.

“Jurgen speaks English. And since we spoke about United: He once told me, that one day, when it does not fit with Dortmund anymore, Manchester United would be his club,” he said.

Klopp left Westfalenstadion after a difficult campaign that saw Dortmund spend much of the season in the Bundesliga’s bottom three. However, they recovered and finished in sixth place. Nevertheless, the charismatic manager decided to step down after seven years.

And despite the struggles endured by the Champions League finalists of two years ago, Klopp was a man very much in demand following his departure. According to Goal, the German was linked with both Real Madrid and Liverpool, but announced that he intended to take a break before deciding his next move.

If he is waiting for the top job at United to become available however, he may be forced to wait a while. Louis van Gaal now appears to be implementing the changes to help them return to a position from which they can challenge for the league title. However, should the Dutchman make a poor start to their next campaign, the club’s hierarchy may feel forced to call for Klopp.
