Liverpool flop Rickie Lambert is now willing to accept that his Anfield career is over, and may accept a move to West Brom.
According to the Daily Mirror, the 33-year-old turned down the chance to leave Merseyside in January when Aston Villa put in a £5m bid, but now it appears that the writing may be on the wall.
The Baggies are reportedly the favourites to end his Reds nightmare, as the Mirror report that Tony Pulis is a big fan of the target man. That interest ramped up after he missed out on Demba Ba, who instead headed for China.
Despite Lambert’s struggles this year – having scored just two Premier League goals for his boyhood club – his efforts at Southampton would suggest that he is able to do a decent job, and offer something different to the skilful Saido Berahino, who he could partner up front.
Although Brendan Rodgers hasn’t seen it often this year, the England international is one of the very few strikers in the top flight that is capable of giving defenders problems both in the air and on the ground. That versatility would allow Pulis to change his style fairly quickly, should the situation require it.
