Liverpool’s interest in Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke appears to have cooled slightly, after reports suggested that they were considering two other strikers this summer.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca and Salomon Rondon of Zenit are now on the Merseyside club’s shopping list, after accepting Villa’s firm stance that they will not accept anything less than the £32m release clause in the Belgian’s contract.
However, they face a similar situation if they wish to bring Bacca to Anfield. The Daily Mail report that the La Liga side will only accept £21.5m for the Colombian, which would trigger his release clause.
The 28-year-old is the Europa League champions’ star forward so understandably, they are keen to hold onto him unless it is taken out of their hands. Bacca scored 20 times in the Spanish top flight last season.
Meanwhile, the Echo suggest that Rondon would be a slightly cheaper option, as he may be available for around £15m. The Venezuelan hit the back of the net 13 times in Russia during the last campaign.
Both players are currently being monitored while on international duty at the Copa America. But, neither has set the tournament alight with Rondon notching the one goal between them. However, it was Bacca’s Colombia that progressed to the quarter-finals, having finished third in Group C, with Venezuela one place below them.
