Manchester United are said to be hoping to wrap up a cut-price deal to sign Galatasaray defender Semih Kaya after hitting a stumbling block in their chase for Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi, according to the Daily
Louis van Gaal is known to be on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer, but has been put off by the news that Valencia will only consider letting Otamendi leave if his £35m release clause is triggered.
And that has led the Dutchman into seeking out alternatives that won’t take up a significant portion of the club’s transfer war chest.
Reports in Turkish publication Fanatik are now claiming that van Gaal will turn his attentions to Semih Kaya, who will cost the Red Devils a bargain £5.5m.
Van Gaal is keen on the 24-year-old, as he will help drive down the average age of his squad.
However, United may have to go up against Italian giants Inter Milan, as Roberto Mancini became a fan of the player while in charge of Galatasaray.
