Manchester United are said to have made Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin their number one transfer target this summer, according to the Metro.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is looking to strengthen his midfield department this summer, and as well as a right-sided midfield player being high on his wish list, the Dutchman also wants Schneiderlin to come in and provide cover for the veteran Michael Carrick, who missed large sections of last season through injury.
The France international has been a key figure behind Southampton’s meteoric rise over the past seven seasons, but van Gaal wants to bring him on board in the coming weeks.
Schneiderlin chalked up 26 appearances for the Saints last term, as they booked a spot in the Europa League, but has been on the verge of leaving St Mary’s for the past 12 months.
Last summer he had been on the verge of joining Premier League rivals Arsenal, but the move fell through at the last minute.
