Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph could be on his way to the Etihad Stadium this summer, after reports revealed that Manchester City could be willing to trigger the England international’s release clause.
According to the Daily Mirror, and in worrying news to Villa supporters, the 25-year-old could be available for as little as £10m.
As much of a blow as it would be to Tim Sherwood’s aspirations to watch one of his key men depart, the deal – should it go through – would be a lot better for the Villains than it could have been had the former Leeds man not surprised most people by signing a new contract at Villa Park in January. Without the deal, Delph would have been able to walk away for nothing this summer.
At the time that he signed, the club were in danger of sinking, and it’s safe to say that his commitment to the side certainly had a positive impact on the team’s run until the end of the season, which saw them stay in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup final.
However, they now face starting next year without two of their key men, with the Mirror reporting that striker Christian Benteke is also attracting interest that may see his own release clause triggered.
