According to the Daily Express, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have already had two bids rejected for the winger – with the latest offer adding up to around £40m – but will not be deterred in their mission to sign the England international, and are willing to pay the extra £10m that will persuade the Reds to sell.

The Express suggest that with Chelsea, Arsenal, and even Real Madrid reportedly considering making an approach, City’s latest bid will come in the next few days as they try to get a deal across the line before another club can swoop in.

And it appears that the prospect of losing one of their first-team players will actually be well received by the Anfield hierarchy, with the Express reporting that bids for both Nathaniel Clyne and Roberto Firmino could well be made off the back of Sterling’s departure.
