Manchester United are confident that they will be able to land Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
According to the Daily Mirror, Louis van Gaal has told Ed Woodward that he wants the German star to join him at Old Trafford.
And the Mirror suggest that they fancy their chances of making the deal happen, as the 30-year-old has just one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena. And it may cost just £7.5m to bring him to the Premier League, the Mirror report, which is arguably considerably lower than what a player of his quality would normally command.
Having won practically everything available to him during his time with the Bundesliga giants, the holding midfielder may be tempted by a move to England if he wishes to seek a new challenge.
And van Gaal will be hoping that that winning feeling rubs off on some of the other players as the club try to bring themselves back into title contention. After two years in the wilderness, it would not be a surprise if the Red Devils began the campaign as underdogs. But, if they can complete a deal for Schweinsteiger, they may have the kind of player that can help them back to the table’s summit.
