Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is desperate to stay at Old Trafford, and prove that he can still cut it at the highest level.
The Daily Express report that Louis van Gaal is keen to put together a new-look strike force this summer, while van Persie has been attracting interest from Fenerbache.
However, the Express report that the 31-year-old is keen to remain with the Premier League side, as his family are settled in the north-west, and he still wants to show that he can bring something to the team.
The Dutchman’s relationship with his manager appears to have taken a surprising turn, given that van Gaal appeared to often rely on the striker while the pair worked together for the national side.
And the statistics would suggest that the former Arsenal man still has the ability to fight for his place. Although he has failed to hit the heights of his first season with his current side – where he scored 26 goals as United clinched the title – he has still been a more than useful player this past season. He hit the back of the net ten times in 27 games.
Unfortunately however, injury problems, which have plagued most of his career, kept him out for a couple of months last season. And upon his return, he failed to find the back of the net in three games.
