Manchester United have earmarked Everton’s Seamus Coleman as the man they want to solve their right-back issues next season.
Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia were both used in the role last year, despite being considered as wingers. And their lack of experience at full-back was often exploited and cost the Red Devils at times throughout the season.
According to The Sun, Louis van Gaal wants the 26-year-old who, while he has no problem getting forward and offering support in attack, is a more traditional defender. However, The Sun suggest that it may take £20m to sign the Republic of Ireland international.
Part of the reason that Coleman would cost so much is that he signed a long-term deal at Goodison Park only last year, that will expire in 2019, The Sun report.
However, Roberto Martinez is reluctantly prepared for his key man to leave this summer, having already looked at Leeds United’s Sam Byram as a potential replacement, The Sun add.
