The 22-year-old was reflecting on how he has flown through the divisions, having been playing non-league football not so long ago, and according to the Daily Mirror, he was left almost speechless by the move to Merseyside.

“Words can’t describe it. It is a massive achievement for me and my family. It is a challenge that I am really looking forward to,” he said.

Ings is one of four players already through the door at Anfield this summer, and with Liverpool’s difficulties in front of goal last season, he is the one – with perhaps the exception of James Milner – that the most is expected from.

The expectations come after enjoying an excellent first year on a personal level in the top flight. While Burnley were relegated, Ings kept them within touch of staying up for much of the campaign. He scored 11 goals, comfortably making him the Clarets’ top goalscorer.

The only thing delaying the deal being completely done and dusted is the compensation fee that Liverpool must pay Burnley as the forward is under 24, the Daily Mirror report. However, a tribunal will set the figure if the teams cannot agree.
