It’s no secret that Real Madrid are in the market for a long term replacement for veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas, but where reports are linking them heavily with a move for Manchester United’s David de Gea, the Spanish giants had looked to bring in Thibaut Courtois of Chelsea.

At least that’s according to Belgian newspaper HLN, who claim that Chelsea have also put a valuation of €100m (£73m) oh his head.
It does now look as though de Gea will link up with Los Blancos in the next few days, but HLN say that they were initially interested in snapping up the Belgian international.
The deal was quickly closed down, though, as Chelsea CEO Marina Granovskaia made the club’s stance crystal clear by informing Real that Courtois would cost any interested party a fee of 100 million euros.
That fee is almost double the €52m Juventus paid Parma for Gianluigi Buffon back in 2001 to make his the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.
Madrid president Florentino Perez is said to be a big admirer of Courtois, but at the tender age of 23 he will probably feel that €100m is far too much to pay for him at this stage in his career.
