Sergio Ramos’ move to Manchester United could still be on as Real Madrid have identified Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi as their number one target to replace him, according to Spanish publication Marca.
Valencia are said to be well aware of the interest from the Capital, and have thus called off talks with an unnamed English club, believed to be United themselves.
Otamendi has a buyout fee of €50m, and both staff and fans of Real are said to be huge admirers of his ability and character, making a move a distinct possibility.
The Argentine’s agent, Eugenio López, has made it clear that the player is keen to leave the Mestalla this summer, and is boosted by the fact that Valencia will need to play by Financail Fair Play rules, and his sale would go along way to helping them keep in line.
United had their first bid for Ramos rejected earlier this week, but are fully expected to weigh back in with an improved offer at some point next week.
