1. Keep Christian Benteke AND sign Charlie Austin
Villa were one of the lowest scoring teams in the Premier League this season, and the bulk of their strikes came from Christian Benteke. The Belgian is being coy about his future having been linked with moves to the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool.
However, Villa could conceivably convince him to stick around for another year at least. With Euro 2016 on the horizon, Sherwood will be able to guarantee him first team football where a ‘bigger club’ might not, which will be invaluable for him to secure his place at the spearhead of the Belgian attack.
Villa have also been linked with a move for QPR’s Charlie Austin, too. With their goalscoring problems in mind, the England international’s arrival would go a long way to easing the pressure on Benteke, providing the club with a frightening forward line that would give any defence in the top flight a hard time. Throw Gabby Agbonlahor into the mix and they’ll have everything – pace, power, height and smart movement.
