Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been concerned lately that his lack of a truly world class shot stopper is hindering his side’s title aspirations.
However, an occurrence on Friday night from the Copa America may pique the Frenchman’s interest.
Arsenal stopper David Ospina is currently holding court in between the sticks for Colombia, and faced a test from the highest order as his side took on Argentina in the quarter finals.
During the game, Ospina made a wonderful double save from Sergio Aguero AND Lionel Messi to keep the Albiceleste at bay.
And though Colombia eventually crashed out on penalties, Ospina proved that Wenger could perhaps be acting slightly hastily.
After just a single season in England, Ospina may not have displayed his best form, but he performed well enough to oust Wojciech Szczesny from the number one spot.
Goalkeepers have a distinct job, and a first class command of the English language is paramount when organising a Premier League defence. There’s no doubt that he’s learning, but moving to another country, and having to deal with everything that goes with it can prove difficult.
Wenger has a top class goalkeeper in his goal, and with Cech supposedly arriving for £11m, that is money that could be more wisely invested elsewhere.
