Football legend and former Bayern Munich coach Franz Beckenbauer has told Bayern Munich stalwart to turn down a move to Manchester United this summer and stay with his current club, the Daily
The German international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with some reports even claiming that they will be able to land his signature for as little as £8m.
But Beckenbauer doesn’t want him to go, and instead of paying him a compliment like saying that he is too valuable to lose, he instead claimed that the 30-year-old is far too past his prime to make a meaningful impact on the Premier League.
“I would advise him not to go to England. He can stay here as well. This challenge, at his age, it’s not what he needs.
“I would play one or two more years in Munich, at this high level.
“And then, if he still wants to and if he still feels like playing football is the thing, he can make a step back and maybe go to the USA.
“In New York, Cosmos is searching for players, also Red Bull. So I think if he, as a world champion, goes to New York or another club in the MLS, that would greatly improve the standing of football there.”
Schweinsteiger has spent his entire career with Bayern, winning everything there is to win in the game.
He has remained silent throughout the speculation, and as yet there is no indication over whether he wants the move or not.
