Arsenal and Tottenham have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after the Gabon international offered some clarity following speculation regarding his future.
According to the Daily
“You can take it for granted that I am not going to waste any time thinking about giving up how happy I am at Borussia, in the city of Dortmund and with this team,” he said.
Under Jurgen Klopp, the Westfalenstadion outfit became one of the powerhouses of the European game, having won the league crown twice since 2011. They also reached the Champions League final in 2013 where they were narrowly beaten by Bayern Munich.
Nevertheless, the club endured a very slow start to the most recent season, and amazingly spent much of the campaign in the bottom three. They pulled themselves together however, and managed to earn a place in the Europa League for this upcoming year.
Despite their struggles, Aubameyang explained that he believes that Dortmund can return to the summit once again, the Express report.
“If I didn’t believe that I could win titles with Dortmund, then I wouldn’t be here,” he insisted.
The attacker was one of the real bright points of the last campaign. Having spent his first season in the shadow of Robert Lewandowski, he was given his chance to shine this past year, and he certainly took it, scoring 16 goals in 33 league appearances.
Understandably, the pacey striker was attracting Premier League interest, but it looks as if the north London pair may now need to look elsewhere.
