Arsenal have been handed a huge boost ahead of the new campaign, after the Daily Mirror reported that Theo Walcott had agreed a new deal to remain with the Gunners.

According to the Mirror, the England international has signed a four-year extension to his contract – that was set to expire at the end of this upcoming season – and has been rewarded with an increased salary of £100,000 a week. The deal will make him one of the highest earners at the Emirates.

The Mirror suggest that the club will confirm that Walcott has signed on the dotted line ahead of the opening game of the new Premier League season against West Ham. Perhaps, they are holding off revealing the news officially to ensure that there is a good feeling surrounding the squad before they begin the campaign.

Although the 26-year-old has suffered from a catalogue of injuries during his time in north London, he has often proved that he is one of the most exciting members of the squad, and is able to produce moments of brilliance.

His hat-trick on the final day of last season, as well as his thumping strike in the FA Cup final, left fans both annoyed that he hadn’t been available for most of the year, and optimistic about what he may be able to achieve with a solid run in the side.

This should confirm that he will have that chance while wearing an Arsenal shirt.
