Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a £17.9m deal to sign Napoli winger Jose Callejon, who wants to leave the Serie A side.
According to the Metro, the Gunners are leading the charge for the Spain international, who left Real Madrid for Stadio San Paolo in the same summer that Mesut Ozil departed the Bernabeu for the Premier League side. Liverpool and Sevilla are also interested in the 28-year-old.
Despite often being deployed in a wider position under former manager Rafael Benitez, Callejon has been lethal in front of goal, having managed 11 goals in this past season.
As well as signing of one of Europe’s most exciting players – should they manage to pull off a deal – the acquisition of the former Espanyol man may help in their attempts to sign Gonzalo Higuain.
The Telegraph report that Arsene Wenger is keen on the forward, and signing a long-time teammate – having worked with Callejon at both Napoli and Madrid – may be enough to convince the Argentinian to complete a move to the Premier League.
