Arsenal have reportedly knocked back an approach from Southampton to take young defender Calum Chambers on loan for the upcoming season, according to the Daily
The 20-year-old made a strong start to his career at The Emirates following his £16m move last summer (via BBC) but saw his playing time decrease as the season rolled on.
The Mirror reports that several Premier League sides had been keen on taking him off their hands for a season, but Wenger has told all interested parties – including Southampton – to forget about any sort of a deal.
It is thought that Wenger is keen to hold onto the England under-21 international because of his versatility, as well as his potential. Chambers can play at centre-back or right-back as well as cover in midfield when needed.
Chambers ended the 2014/15 season having made 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal. He has been earmarked as an eventual replacement for either Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny, but showed that he is capable of playing out wide when he was drafted in to replace the injured Mathieu Debuchy.
