Arsenal are looking to win one of the first battles of the season between themselves and Chelsea, by bagging the signature of Blues target Jose Callejon, the Metro
According to the Metro, Jose Mourinho’s men are preparing a £15.5m bid for the Napoli winger, as they look to retain their Premier League title.
However, the Gunners are planning their own offer for the former Real Madrid man, the Metro report.
Despite the Serie A side’s inability to qualify for the Champions League, Callejon enjoyed a great year. Although he often played in a wider position, he still found the back of the net 11 times in the top flight.
And with potentially two offers on the table – both from sides that are able to offer a place in Europe’s premier club competition – it could see the attacker decide that he needs a new challenge after two years in Italy.
The possible transfer battle between the two clubs could have a large impact on the season. While Arsenal finished third in the division during the last campaign, by the time Chelsea wrapped up the title, Arsene Wenger’s men were the club’s closest rivals.
Ahead of Sunday’s Community Shield clash, it would be a massive signal of intent if the north London outfit were able to steal one of the Blues’ main targets, and could have a major impact on the destination of the title.
