Arsenal offered chance to sign Alvaro Negredo

Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo as La Liga giants Valencia look to offload him this summer, the Metro reports.

The Gunners are already acknowledged to be in the market for a new striker during the current transfer window, and have been extensively linked with a deal for Real Madrid goal machine Karim Benzema, but so far have struggled to make any significant progress in snapping him up (via Daily Express).

And now, with just two weeks to go until the new season kicks off, Valencia are hoping to take advantage of Arsenal’s fruitless search by offering them a deal to bring Negredo to the club.

The Daily Star claims that the 29-year-old has been offered to both Arsenal and Liverpool this summer as they look to clear him off their books.

Having spent the season on loan with Valencia, the Spaniards don’t want to spend the £10m they owe Manchester City for his services after he managed just six goals in 33 appearances last term. The Metro state that they will have to pay City a further £10m in 2016, and that the club wants to spend their money on a player that will be more prolific in front of goal.

Negredo may have suffered a poor turn of form last season, but he is a proven goalscorer at the top level. During his single campaign with City in 2013/14, he managed to score 23 goals in a total of 48 appearances. With goals coming from all over the Arsenal squad, Wenger may be wise to take a closer look at the Spanish international if he is being offered.
