Arsenal are ready to make an improved offer for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, as Arsene Wenger tries to ensure that the Gunners compete for the Premier League title this season.
According to the Metro,
The Metro report that the player’s agent had ruled out a move, but the La Liga giants are open to selling the Frenchman should they receive an offer that they feel unable to turn down.
Despite the 27-year-old playing a key part in their pre-season preparations – including a start in the recent victory over Manchester City – Real Madrid may not receive a better offer for the forward given that he is approaching an age where many strikers begin to decline, which may work in Arsenal’s favour, should the Metro’s reports of an improved offer be correct.
However, the Gunners may be reconsidering whether they need to make the offer following their sensationally ruthless performance in their first match of this year’s Emirates Cup.
Though some will claim it was just a pre-season friendly, and thus you cannot read too much into the result, they completely demolished a strong Lyon side 6-0, despite Arsene Wenger using some of the youngsters previously on the periphery of the side.
If they can reproduce that kind of brutality once the Premier League season begins, they may find that they don’t need Karim Benzema.
