The father of Barcelona youngster Sergi Samper is reportedly so keen for Arsenal to sign his son that he has contacted the club to plead with them to sign him, according to the Metro.
Samper, along with Jon Toral and Hector Bellerin visited Arsenal’s training ground back in 2011, but instead of following his compatriots to the UK on a permanent deal, he opted to stay put at the Nou Camp.
However, Samper’s family are apparently regretting the decision, and a report in Spanish daily El Confidencial has said that his father is attempting to broker a move to London after feeling that then boss Pep Guardiola didn’t look out for his son’s best interests.
Another report in the Metro claims that Arsenal are willing to meet the player’s release clause, which is apparently set at just £8.4m. And with his family now keen for the player to go ahead with the move, a deal could be struck fairly quickly.
Samper would do well to take heart from the progress made by Hector Bellerin, who saw himself finish the 2014/15 season as the club’s first choice right-back after breaking through from the youth team.
