Chelsea have completed their second signing of the summer, after they announced that they wrapped up a deal to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who follows Radamel Falcao through the Stamford Bridge door.
The club’s website confirmed that the 28-year-old will wear the number one shirt – that was vacated when Petr Cech departed to join Arsenal – for his new side. The club also confirmed that Thibaut Courtois will keep his number 13 jersey.
However, it seems likely that the Belgian will be the one that takes to the field for the first game of their title defence. Courtois managed to keep Cech out of the side for the majority of the last campaign.
Nevertheless, Mourinho will be pleased to have secured Begovic’s signature. The former Portsmouth man has been one of the most consistent stoppers in the top flight over the past few years, suggesting that he will be able to do the job required, should he be needed.
