Chelsea are said to be making a last ditch attempt to keep Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi away from Manchester United by holding secret talks with his agent to hijack the deal, according to the Daily

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been a long time fan of the Argentine international and is still hoping to bring him to Stamford Bridge as he steps up his search for a long term replacement for veteran skipper John Terry.
And now Spanish newspaper Super Deporte claim Mourinho has been in touch with the player’s agent, the infamous Jorge Mendes, in a bid to broker a late deal.
Chelsea have been told that they will have to meet Valencia’s £26m buyout clause to be in with a chance of landing the 26-year-old, but the final decision would rest with the player.
This would mean that they would undoubtedly unsettle Manchester United’s negotiations to snap him up.
