Chelsea have not been deterred after having their first bid for Everton defender John Stones rejected, and are preparing to make a second offer, Sky
The Premier League champions had made an offer of £20m for the 21-year-old, however, the Toffees turned it down (via Sky Sports). Stones confirmed that he is happy where he is, and revealed that his ambitions involve the Goodison Park outfit, Sky Sports report.
“I am very happy at Everton. My aim right now is to try to nail down a regular spot in this Everton team and hopefully that will take care of playing for England,” he explained.
However, in a week when an U-turn has dominated the transfer headlines – with Fabian Delph changing his mind about changing his mind about a move to Manchester City (via BBC Sport) – the Blues will be hoping their improved offer is enough to convince Roberto Martinez to let the prospect move on.
Stones has proved during his time with Everton that he is one of the best young defenders in the country. But like concerns over Delph’s move to the Etihad, there are questions about how much game-time he will get should he complete a move to Stamford Bridge with John Terry and Gary Cahill having formed a solid partnership.
