The Napoli forward seems destined to leave Stadio San Paolo this summer, as despite his impressive goalscoring record, the Serie A side failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, the Daily Express report. If that is his primary motivation for a switch, he could well be interested in a move to the Premier League. The Express have reported that Arsenal and Manchester United are leading the English charge for his signature.
However, the Express report that the 27-year-old has a buyout clause of £64.7m, which could prove a stumbling block to any side that is nervous about how they use their chequebook this summer. While he has been a success in both Italy and Spain, there is no guarantee that he can adapt as well to the Premier League.
But, with Higuain’s desire to play Champions League football unable to be fulfilled with his current side for at least another year, it seems very likely that he will be on the move before this window shuts.
