Stoke City’s audacious bid to land Inter Milan star Xherdan Shaqiri could have taken a step closer to success today after the club announced that Steven N’Zonzi has completed his move to Sevilla.
According to the Daily Express, the 28-year-old is heading for La Liga – after spending the last six years in the Premier League, with half of that time at the Britannia – with the fee believed to be around £7m.
And while Mark Hughes will disappointed to see the Frenchman go, the deal is likely to provide some ammunition in their attempts to lure the Swiss magician to the Premier League. The Express report that a fee of £12m has already been agreed for the 23-year-old.
However, they will also have to pay the wages of a player who has already played for two of Europe’s biggest sides, so the money for N’Zonzi should come in handy.
It has been a busy day for Hughes’ side with the Express previously reporting that Aston Villa veteran Shay Given will undergo a medical ahead of a move to the Potters.
The news may worry fans, however, as it could be the deal that paves the way for Asmir Begovic to move to Chelsea, who are keen on the Bosnian, according to the Express.
