Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero has reportedly completed his move to Manchester United, according to the Metro.
The
Romero had been a free agent after leaving Sampdoria at the end of last season.
However, it is unlikely that he will be Louis van Gaal’s first choice. The Daily Star previously reported that David de Gea is set to stay and see out the final year of his contract despite interest from Real Madrid. Given the Spaniard’s performances last season, it is unlikely that the 24-year-old will be sat on the bench, especially if van Gaal wants to make a last ditch attempt to keep him away from the Bernabeu.
But, the Metro report that Romero’s imminent signing will probably see Victor Valdes leave the club. The veteran has recently engaged in a public spat with the manager (via Telegraph), and the signing of a replacement appears to confirm that he will be on his way out during this window.
